The Capital University of Integrative Medicine

MISSION STATEMENT

The Capital University of Integrative Medicine (CUIM) was conceived and organized to provide education to medical and health practitioners who wish to incorporate in their practices integrative therapies of both Western and Eastern schools of philosophy of medicine. Responding to the demands of practitioners and patients, CUIM has embraced a simple but progressive mission which encourages health care professionals to promote health assessment and maintain the initiative in advancing preventive, alternative and integrative therapies to alleviate illness, suffering, premature death, and chronic degenerative disease.

The Board of Trustees of CUIM believes firmly that Americans want and deserve the opportunity to receive the highest quality of health care, with the broadest range of care options. In keeping with this set of beliefs, CUIM is organized to educate and develop health care professionals, including those already in health care practice, to serve the public. CUIM envisions the creation of a health care system that is cost effective and meets the needs of our society.

CUIM is a graduate, professional university and the only resident institution of higher education in the United States with a curriculum of diverse integrative therapies. Its mission is to promote and sustain academic programs that integrate instruction, research, and public service in a design most responsive to the needs and endeavors of individuals and groups within its scope of influence. The University is dedicated to bringing insight in encouraging individuals as never before to take the initiative to employ preventive measures to alleviate illness, suffering, premature death, and chronic degenerative disease.

The University welcomes and extends its resources to all who strive for excellence in medicine, without regard to their race, color, national and ethnic origin, religion, sexual orientation, sex, age, disability or veteran's status. It seeks to fulfill its mission by enrolling students with a broad range of talents and abilities who have demonstrated the potential to be successful in health care practice and research.

As an independent institution, the University relies primarily on private resources, along with available government resources to offer programs which meet current and changing health care needs of society. The learning community of the University seeks to cultivate a renewed sense of purpose and leadership within each individual and to promote an enduring search for knowledge, influence and excellence in human and medical service. Those who matriculate are required to demonstrate a broad understanding and competency in health care and a commitment to intellectual development, medical practice, and scholarship in complementary, alternative and integrative medicine.

Graduates of CUIM are prepared to enter the health care field and participate fully in the health care profession by conducting research, assuming leadership roles, teaching, and caring for patients.
